Care.data – the scheme in which all GP practices will have to regularly send patients’ personal, confidential information to the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) – has been paused. The scheme allows HSCIC to sell your data to organisations outside the NHS, including commercial companies. There are concerns about the nature of information that will be extracted and the extent to which it will be anonymised – for more details see our web page on care.data under “What to expect next“.
For information about how to prevent your medical data being used, see www.thebigoptout.com. If you want to opt out, according to NHS England, you need to do this by the Autumn 2014.
