Independent work on safe nurse-patient rations halted

Work on one of the key recommendations of the Francis Inquiry into failings at Stafford Hospital has been abandoned. NHS England’s boss has stopped the independent and evidence-based work of NICE on setting safe staffing levels. Instead, individual (and cash strapped) hospital trusts will retain control over staffing levels, and there will be no national guidance that can be used to hold healthcare providers to account when they cut staff.
