Government wants personal information about each patient’s GP appointments

The government wants to get information about 18 million patients from their GP’s records. They want to know the date, time and length of each appointment, the gender, year of birth and much of the postcode for each patient, plus the reason for each appointment. It is currently unclear why they should want this information.
