Government faced defeat on Queen’s Speech that failed to protect NHS from TTIP

25 MPs across the political parties put forward an amendment to the Queen’s Speech (May 2016), expressing regret that the ‘Gracious Speech’ did not include a Bill to protect the NHS from the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The amendment was accepted by both Houses but appears to have been more of a way to a challenge to the government than to safeguard the NHS.

Following the amendment, there is no sign of a Bill being introduced to protect the NHS, and anyway little support from experts that such a Bill could be effective.  To see how the NHS could be protected, see our page http://www.patients4nhs.org.uk/the-need-to-exempt-the-nhs/
