NHS Trusts can now earn almost 50% of their total income from non-NHS sources, such as private patients, paving the way to a two-tier system for health care and increasing the privatisation of the NHS. In the context of the current NHS bed crisis, the National Health Action Party are asking people to send Freedom of Information requests to their local Trust about the number of beds they have for private patients, and then send the responses to the NHA Party to build an accurate picture of what is happening.
